In The Morning

Sometimes, it is so easy to get down, sad, or disappointed about the things happening or not happening in my life, but it always seems that after a bit of time feeling this way, I remember that light must come after darkness!  With the economy in the dumps, job losses everywhere, relationship issues, and so on, I know some of you may feel this way too at times.  I have to remind myself that God won't forsake me, and you know what?  He doesn't allow me to stay down for long!  When I feel down I do a few things that always make me feel better (aside from praying and going to church):

1) Do my nails (I love nail polish and all of its colors, and when I am down I usually go for more vibrant colors)
2) Listen to music and shake what my momma gave me in my long mirror, LOL
3) Dress up!  (my favorite one!)

For me personally, on days when subbing isn't consistent, things simply aren't right, or I'm feeling down, I put on a cute dress or some jeans and cute tee or shirt, and a pair of 4-5" stilettos, even if all I am doing is running an errand or visiting my mom and her co-workers at work!  I simply feel fabulous and much better after doing so.  These things do not substitute the amazing feeling and empowerment God gives, but I find them to be a tool God allows as a little pick me up.  I've come to realize that though I may feel down or my circumstances are bad, doesn't mean I have to stay in that frame of mind.  But to be honest, it wasn't until I started really trying to build my relationship with God (a daily journey), that I have been able to see the sun shining on the other side of my darkness, long before it even begins to rise!  So today lovelies, I just want to remind you that the sun is beaming, even if you can't see it right now or at difficult times.  All we have to do is look up to see the sunshine!

Psalm 30:5 (New International Version)

       but his favor lasts a lifetime;

What I Want Now: Shoes!!

So I was doing some web searching, looking at shoes, and I came across these!!!
I am very picky about the kind of sandals I wear, because I have some feet insecurities (Lord help me, lol), but these sandals are perfect!  I always prefer a thong settle sandal, as opposed to strappy ones, because I like how they look on my feet.  The gladiator shoe is totally in this season, but most importantly: this turquoise color is DIVINE!!  I love the studded details too.  I can see myself wearing these with jeans and a tee or a cute blouse, or a cute dress (short or maxi) throughout the summer.  I must have them soon (can we say b-day present?)  LOL!
OMG, I love me a funky(in a good way) shoe, and this shoe is Funk-ay LOL!!!  I love the pointed toe, that is not too pointy.  The hidden platform is so in, and add comfort.  I absolutely adore the color blocking.  I am a pink/purple kind of girl, so this magenta is so right for me!!  The architectural detail on the back of this shoe (the raised back) is so on point!  Add a 4.25" heel and these shoes are just right for me; I totally see them in my closet (visualization is key, lol).

When I get these shoes (it is important to speak things into existence lovelies!), you all will definitely know!

Today's Bible Verse

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (New International Version)

9 Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their work:

 10 If one falls down,
his friend can help him up.
But pity the man who falls
and has no one to help him up!

Sisterfriends!!

Bonjour Lovelies!

I just want to say that I love my sisterfriends!!  They come in different shapes, personalities, and sizes, but I love them all!!  I thank God for the ladies He has placed in my life, and I firmly believe God does not create us lovely chicas to be or feel alone.  True enough I have had to lose some friends along my journey, especially in the last year or so, but the lovelies, who I communicate with on a regular basis, who I know will be there for me when I need them, and know that the advice they give will have positivity and God behind it.  I think it is important to celebrate our sisterfriends; call them and see how they are doing, get together for dinner and fun, sometimes, just let them know you are there.  So many times, we feel like friends have changed or feel lonely because we don't have friends (or the kind we desire), but God tells us (in my words)  to have friends you have to be a friend.  Often we get so caught up within ourselves, that we forget to be friends (yet we have all kinds of attitude when our "friend" is being a friend like we think).  Life is not meant to be lonely, and I thank God for surrounding me with ladies who make sure that I never feel that I am.  So today, I just want to let my sisterfriends know they are appreciated and thank you for going on this journey of life with me!!!  Tons of smooches to you lovelies!!!

Today's Bible Verse(s)

1 John 4:16 (New International Version)
16And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

John 15:10-11 (New International Version)
10If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. 11I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

All You Gotta Do Is Say Yes (Where is Floetry by the way?)

I was leaving an event at church one night last week, a book club, meet the author style thing (check out Living With No Regrets by Anetra Wagner Piper; I just finished reading it...super good!), and the Coco Brother show was on Praise 92.1. He played the song "Yes" of whom I need to know who it, so I can buy it on iTunes. As the song was playing Coco Brother talked about what aren't we saying yes to (God, careers, relationships, kindness, love, etc.), and that all we really have to do is say yes God. I was so moved by the song and his words' it filled my heart so! It got me to thinking, since I've really opened my heart to God and committed myself to saying yes to whatever He has in His will for me, my life has improved immensely! True enough, things are far from perfect, but the joy in my heart and the peace of mind I have in spite of my circumstances is amazing!!

My experiences since consciously striving to walk in God's will, leaves me wondering why so many young people are hesitant to wholeheartedly say yes to God? I have friends (even ones I grew up with in church) who are resistant to trying things more God-centered (i.e. being open to forgiveness, coming to Sista2Sista, a church group for women 18-35, doing things besides hitting the club and getting drunk, and just finding a more positive outlook on everything in life); these same friends don't even call me much, unless they want something, of course. I just want them to see how much more fulfilled life can be, when they say yes! Don't get me wrong Lovelies, I still struggle with God on things (I totally need to study The Word more, to name one of the many things i need to work on, but I'm progressing). So, just know I am never coming from a judgemental stance. I just want everyone to experience the beauty of a daily relationship with God! And it is so simple; All we have to do is say yes! Yes, Lord I will follow You, strive to do Your will, sacrifice myself so that You may be glorified, and live in the joy, peace, and love that You bring! Easter passed a few weeks ago, and the meaning of the holiday never resonated so strongly with me than it did this year; God gave His son! Jesus sacrificed his life, for little me. Of course, I can say yes, and watch the beauty of God work in my life!!!!

What To Wear- Date Night/Dinner Night Out

Happy Mid Week Lovelies!!

I know the weekend is near, and some of you fabulous ladies may have dates or plans dinner with the girls.  So hear is one of many options for this weekend's festivities!

OMG!  I love this top!  Purple is one of my favorite colors; it seems to make any person look and seem a bit more regal! The asymmetrical shape of this top is so in right now.  It allows your collarbone to show, which is one of the sexiest parts of the female body.  It is sexy without revealing too much, and the ruffle is just beautiful and feminine!

This top would look good with, skinny, straight, or wide leg jeans, but I prefer skinny or straight, because of the voluminous ruffle of the top.  Go for dark jeans, because they are much dressier than a lighter wash jean.
These snakeskin booties are fierce and have been added to my wish list!  Booties look great with skinny or straight leg jeans.  Plus, they can be easily transitioned to fall with some opaque tights.  The grey colors of make these shoes a wonderful neutral!
I love a peep-toe pump, and this one is divine!  The color-blocking details on the back of the shoe is so original, especially the pop of blue!  With these shoes I would do a simple earring, maybe a pearl or stud.

I really like these earrings because they can jazz up any outfit.  The turquoise color looks wonderful against glowing skin and adds a pop of color to the outfit.

To finish off this date/dinner out look, I would add an oversized clutch in black or some other neutral.  The most important part of this outfit is the top, so you don't want to accessorize too much to draw away from it. Have fun oh FAB ones!

Today's Bible Verse(s)

1 Corinthians 13:11 (New International Version)

11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.

1 Samuel 10:9 (New International Version)

9 As Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed Saul's heart, and all these signs were fulfilled that day.

Change Gon' Come ( I love that song!)

As I was ride around town, going to my various destinations (work, store, etc.), I see places , particularly clubs and bars, that I used to go to.  Seeing those places, I often smile thinking, "I haven't been there in ages or I remember when that used to be So and So, ( i.e. T-town, an old Houston club); good times!!"  LOL.  I gotta admit, hitting the club with friends used to be one of my favorite things to do (though even then, I didn't go out every weekend) because I love to dance!  I used to enjoy getting attention from guys (mostly when I was having insecurities ore self-esteem issues) but most of all I loved being on the dance floor shaking what my momma gave me LOL.  Truth be told, though I enjoyed those times, they are no longer of interest to me.  Since getting real about my relationship with God, I really don't do or want to do the things I used to.  If I were to remain the same, doing the same things, there would be no evidence of God working in me!  Don't get me wrong lovelies, I am far from perfect and make mistakes all of the times.  For example, I really try not to curse (I used to curse like a sailor and loved it), but sometimes I slip up, especially when I'm very angry.  But God is so amazing because I bring my slip-ups and mistakes to him, and He forgives me!  Even better, He helps me to work on those things!!  When you're walking with God, change has to come, but don't be afraid of it.  Embrace the change He is bringing out in you, because it is only for your good.  And honeys, don't worry about who leaves you as your changes occur, because that's God's way of weeding people out of your life anyway!!

Smooches,

A Few Books

Church Folk by Andrea Bowen

I recently discovered this author (apparently I'm a little late) while reading the Essence book list for the March issue, and I just love her books!  I don't want to give you any details, but lets just say this book explores how those in the church aren't always the most Godly!  It has a juicy plot that keeps you reading, but has strong spiritual and scriptural grounds.

Holy Ghost Corner by Andrea Bowen

Do You and Fabulosity by Russell and Kimora Simmons

Though I could do without the cussing, these are very good books about being the only thing you can be, yourself!  Do you, give steps that can help you become a success in any business, but more importantly succeed in life.  I really like how Russell Simmonsencompasses yoga and meditation as means of finding inner peace which aids in succeeding through life (I think yoga is wonderful way and time to talk to God).  Fabulosity, is similar to Do You, just with lots more glam!  Kimora gives great ideas on how to brand yourself, give yourself a makeover, and love your inner goddess.  These are two great reads that can help get you going in the path you desire to follow (as long as its in God's will of course)  :-)
